Welcome to the beginning of your welding journey!

Our full-day course is crafted to provide beginners with a comprehensive understanding of welding, combining essential theory and hands-on practice.  Tailored especially for those who are new to the craft, this course is the perfect starting point for anyone looking to delve into the art of welding.


Course Overview

Welding Foundations

Focuses on creating strong foundations in welding practices and theory.  Your first evening will be a combination of theoretical concepts and instructor-led welding.  An overview of topics covered are:

  • Machine setup & operation: Gasless vs Gas shielding, gas flow rate, wire feed speed and voltage settings

  • Material choice & Preparation: Commonly used metals and alloys in welding, material preparation, and how material selection changes welding setup and techniques.

  • Build Guidelines:  How MIG welding is commonly used in Industry and motorcycle builds, and what you should undertake yourself, and what you will require support with.

  • Welding Safety: Understanding the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) and workshop safety practices


Hands-On Welding Practice

Let’s get your hands dirty!  Hot off the back of learning key techniques on the first evening, participants will be taking turns practising their weld techniques

  • Welding Fundamentals: We’ll start with a quick overview of what was learned on Evening 1 to make sure everyone is comfortable with the theory and answer any questions

  • Basic Welding Techniques: learn fundamental welding positions and techniques, practising bead formation on scrap materials.

  • Joint Types and Positions: Grow your practical skills in welding, attempting welds on different joint types in various positions.

  • Troubleshooting: Learn to identify and rectify common welding problems with expert guidance.


What you will need

  • Sturdy boots (preferably steel cap, no runners)

  • Long pants and long sleeve clothing (either cotton drill or denim)


We supply

  • Welders, gas, consumables and materials

  • OHS and safety equipment

  • Welding helmet, gloves & safety glasses


Don't Forget your long sleeved clothing and boots - for OH&S Reasons we provide all other PPE but we cannot let you weld with bare skin showing.
