Victorian residents can access the VicRoads Club Permit Scheme. Also referred to as “Club Reg”, "Club Plates, "Red Plates", or “Club Registration”, however, the correct term is Club Permit. The Club Permit Scheme allows owners of all eligible cars and motorcycles (over 25 years old) to be driven on the road for 45 or 90 days, at a reduced price compared to full road registration. To be eligible for the Club Permit Scheme, you must be a current member of a registered club, like Machine Alley. Machine Alley charges a yearly membership fee of $75, plus a one-off scrutineering fee of $55. Once complete, you can choose from the 45-day or 90-day club permit options below. In short, a vehicle must be 25 years or older. But there are exceptions. A replica of an older car or bike could comply if it is an Individually Constructed Vehicle. For example, a recently built '1950's Norton Featherbed frame replica or replica '31 Ford Roadster Street Rod. Below is a list of the 'Normal' criteria; Classic and Historic motor vehicles more than 25 years old. Veteran, Vintage, and pre 1949 motor vehicles. Mobile plant and machinery (Including tractors farm equipment and road machinery) more than 25 years old.

Here are steps to get your vehicle on the Club Permit Scheme in Victoria. You need to be a member, if you haven't already joined CLICK HERE. You'll also need a valid Victorian Motorcycle License. Once you have paid, join the Machine Alley Facebook page HERE. The vehicle you want to put on club registration needs to be a minimum of 25 years old. Any younger and it is not eligible for a club permit. There are no exceptions. You need a valid Victorian Roadworthy Certificate – RWC. There are a lot of motorcycle mechanics in VIC that can help you out with a RWC. If you're not sure where to get a RWC, VicRoads provides a list HERE, or drop into the workshop and have a chat to one of our friendly volunteers. Organise an appointment with one of the Machine Alley scrutineers. Bookings can be made via the Machine Alley website HERE. Ensure you are logged in on the website to access the booking page. At your appointment, you will need: Motorcycle or car that you want to register Victorian Roadworthy Certificate (no more than 30 days old) Valid Victorian Motorcycle License A VicRoads Club Permit Application form A VicRoads Vehicle Eligibility form After the inspection, you'll be provided with paperwork, which you'll need to submit at VicRoads. After your inspection with the Machine Alley scrutineer, take all relevant documents to VicRoads. You need to take your Victorian Roadworthy Certificate, Machine Alley scrutineer paperwork and your Victorian Motorcycle License with you. You'll have two options for a club permit: 45 day permits and 90 day permits. You'll receive a log book and red plates from VicRoads once you have paid for your Club Permit Registration, Install the plates and fill out the log book before each ride you do and you are ready to go! NOTE: You need to remain an active financial member of Machine Alley for your club permit to be active. Yes, it's easy to change your Club Permit vehicle to Machine Alley. Step 1) Get your Machine Alley Club Permit membership online HERE. Step 2) Complete the VicRoads form Vehicle eligibility and standards declaration for club permit vehicles form Step 3) Email your form to hello@machinealley.com.au and mention that you're transferring to Machine Alley. A Machine Alley Office Bearer will review your documents. Step 4) We will email back to you two signed documents: The signed Vehicle eligibility declaration (from step 2) A signed letter confirming that you are an active member. Step 5) Complete and sign this letter advising that you want to change to Machine Alley. Step 6) You visit a VicRoads Service Centre and submit the three documents. Approximately six weeks before your permit expires, you will receive a renewal notice in the mail. The renewal period is based on your current permit duration (either 45 or 90 days). Follow these steps to renew: Step 1: Sign your renewal notice and have it endorsed by a club official (president, treasurer, secretary, or permit officer). You can book a free appointment online HERE. If in-person signing is not possible, request a club official to sign a "Club Permit Endorsement" form. Email a photo or scan of your renewal notice to hello@machinealley.com.au, and we will send back a signed endorsement. VicRoads only accepts proper signatures: ✔️ Pen on paper (wet ink) ✔️ Handwritten electronic signature (stylus, finger, or mouse) They do not accept: ❌ Typed names as signatures ❌ Copy-paste scans of signatures Step 2: Pay for and renew your permit. The easiest method is online via your myVicRoads account. If your club permit vehicle is not listed, call 13 11 71 to link it. If you do not have an account, set one up quickly and easily. Upload either: 🛠️ Your signed and endorsed renewal notice OR 🛠️ Your signed notice plus the signed endorsement form Alternatively, you can: 📍 Visit a VicRoads Customer Service Centre OR 📮 Mail everything (with a cheque) to: VicRoads, GPO Box 1644, Melbourne 3001 Processing time: Online renewals are typically processed by VicRoads within 5 business days. You will receive a receipt via email once completed. Print or keep the receipt as proof of your valid permit. Note: Do not drive the vehicle if your permit expires before renewal is processed.
