HISTORIC CLUB PERMITS

No bikes are to be left on the lifts, or to be parked on the workshop floor at the end of the day. If you have a project that cannot be finished in one session, Machine Alley offers paid storage, and members have access to the Machine Alley motorcycle trailer. Feel free to chat with the volunteers on duty, to work out which option is most suitable for you.

Please help us keep the workshop organised and clean. When you have finished: Return tools and equipment to their correct storage location. If any tools are broken or require maintenance, please tell the staff. Donate only useful materials and parts; If you have spare nuts, bolts or washers, add them to our nuts and bolts bin. We have enough scrap metal and broken tail lights. Sweep your working area and use a de-greaser to remove oil or liquids. If you're unsure where something goes, or how to clean something, just ask.

We ask members - and all Machine Alley visitors - to be considerate to other members, customers and neighbours in Collingwood. We might love to push the limits when we out riding, but we ask our visitors to refrain from stunting, speeding or unnecessarily loud revving in or near our premises, and to respect other residents and businesses in the area. We already know what a motorcycle sounds like, and so do our customers.

Although Machine Alley and/or its members may organise formal and informal meets and rides, please be aware that you are solely responsible for your own personal insurance, safety and behaviour during any such ride. Machine Alley does not insure any group ride or meeting on a public road or at a third-party private space. We assume the following: You are fully licensed and insured, and riding a safe & legal motorcycle. You are not intoxicated or inhibited from being able to ride your motorcycle in any way. Please speak to our staff if you, or anyone else, has consumed too much alcohol, and we can arrange to keep your/their motorcycle overnight. You are responsible for riding within the law, including observing speed limits and general rules of the road. You will abide by all applicable laws. You are not expected to keep up with the speed of any group or individual rider. In other words, set your own pace, ride within your limits, and make sure you feel safe when you are riding. We will never judge your speed or abilities on any ride.

Machine Alley volunteers are here to help you make the most of your membership and the workshop. They can be recognised by the Machine Alley volunteer vest they will be wearing. As riders and builders, they have a wealth of knowledge and experience and are happy to discuss your build with you.

We expect everyone to park their motorcycle considerately to make room for other members, pedestrians and local residents. Badly parked motorcycles may be moved or removed. Machine Alley shall not have any responsibility of liability for any injury or damage to any person or property, including any motorcycles, by or as a result of, the use of the parking area by members, whether by theft, collision, criminal activity, or otherwise, and members hereby assume, for themselves, all risks associated with any such occurrences in or around the parking area.

The members’ spaces at Machine Alley are exclusively for members and their guests. There is no fixed limit to the number of guests you might wish to bring to the private members spaces, but we do expect you to be considerate of your fellow members. The staff or Membership Manager may use their discretion to limit the number of guests when busy.

New members need to attend an Induction. During the Induction, you'll learn about safely using the workshop, tools and equipment. After completing the Induction, you're free to use the Workshop and Equipment. To ensure the safety of you and others, please read and follow these rules: If you are unsure of anything, please ask. You are responsible for your own health and safety, and those around you. If you see somebody doing something unsafe, you are obliged to say something. This will protect them and you. Wear the appropriate protective gear when using equipment & machinery. Wear covered shoes, tie long hair back, and don’t wear clothing or jewellery with loose parts that might get caught in machinery. Respect the tools. If you are unsure how to use a tool, just ask. Use the correct tool for the job to prevent unnecessary breakages and return tools to where you found them. Keep clear of any person operating tools and machinery (bumping an operator could cause serious injury to you or the operator). All accidents or incidents must be reported to Staff, and recorded appropriately. If something is broken, missing or needs maintenance please tell us and write it on the Broken Equipment list. Respect your fellow makers. Be conscious of other people working around you and warn people if you’re about to make a loud noise. Most importantly, learn from your mistakes, and don’t be afraid of them.

Our goal is to have everything you need to service, repair and customise your bike. We will be adding to our tool list constantly and we'll be taking feedback from members around the tools they'd most like us to add. From day one we will have the following: Multiple hand tools sets (spanners, wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, hex keys etc), power tools (grinders, drivers, drills etc.), electrical & wiring tools, welding equipment (mig, tig, and stick), drill press, bench grinder/polisher, specialty tools, (bearing drivers, bearing pullers, torque wrenches, chain breakers etc.), motorcycle hoists/stands, a 3D printer, and much more.

Our workshop is located in the heart of Collingwood at 79 Sackville Street. Close to Punt road, it offers easy access from any direction.

Yearly Membership: This can be paid fortnightly ($27), monthly ($58), or annually upfront, which gets you a 20% discount ($560). Yearly membership includes discounts on courses, consumables and exclusive deals with our sponsors. Three Month Access: Perfect for small to medium size projects, and includes all the benefits of annual membership. For only $229, you can enjoy 3 months full membership. One Month Access: For those not looking for a long term membership, we have a one month pass that entitles you to 30 consecutive days access for $149. To be eligible for the Club Permit Scheme, you must be a current member of a registered club, like Machine Alley. Machine Alley charges a yearly membership fee of $60, plus a one-off onboarding fee of $45. Once complete, you can choose from the 45-day or 90-day club permit options below. Yes, it's easy to change your Club Permit vehicle to Machine Alley. Step 1) Get your Machine Alley Club Permit membership online HERE. Step 2) Complete the VicRoads form Vehicle eligibility and standards declaration for club permit vehicles form Step 3) Email your form to hello@machinealley.com.au and mention that you're transferring to Machine Alley. A Machine Alley Office Bearer will review your documents. Step 4) We will email back to you two signed documents: The signed Vehicle eligibility declaration (from step 2) A signed letter confirming that you are an active member. Step 5) Complete and sign this letter advising that you want to change to Machine Alley. Step 6) You visit a VicRoads Service Centre and submit the three documents. In short, a vehicle must be 25 years or older. But there are exceptions. A replica of an older car or bike could comply if it is an Individually Constructed Vehicle. For example, a recently built '1950's Norton Featherbed frame replica or replica '31 Ford Roadster Street Rod. Below is a list of the 'Normal' criteria; Classic and Historic motor vehicles more than 25 years old. Veteran, Vintage, and pre 1949 motor vehicles. Mobile plant and machinery (Including tractors farm equipment and road machinery) more than 25 years old.

Victorian residents can access the VicRoads Club Permit Scheme. Also referred to as “Club Reg”, "Club Plates, "Red Plates", or “Club Registration”, however, the correct term is Club Permit. The Club Permit Scheme allows owners of all eligible cars and motorcycles (over 25 years old) to be driven on the road for 45 or 90 days, at a reduced price compared to full road registration. Here are steps to get your vehicle on the Club Permit Scheme in Victoria. You need to be a member, if you haven't already joined CLICK HERE. You'll also need a valid Victorian Motorcycle License. Once you have paid, join the Machine Alley Facebook page HERE. The vehicle you want to put on club registration needs to be a minimum of 25 years old. Any younger and it is not eligible for a club permit. There are no exceptions. You need a valid Victorian Roadworthy Certificate – RWC. There are a lot of motorcycle mechanics in VIC that can help you out with a RWC. If you're not sure where to get a RWC, VicRoads provides a list HERE, or drop into the workshop and have a chat to one of our friendly volunteers. Organise an appointment with one of the Machine Alley scrutineers. Bookings can be made via the Machine Alley website HERE. Ensure you are logged in on the website to access the booking page. At your appointment, you will need: Motorcycle or car that you want to register Victorian Roadworthy Certificate (no more than 30 days old) Valid Victorian Motorcycle License A VicRoads Club Permit Application form A VicRoads Vehicle Eligibility form After the inspection, you'll be provided with paperwork, which you'll need to submit at VicRoads. After your inspection with the Machine Alley scrutineer, take all relevant documents to VicRoads. You need to take your Victorian Roadworthy Certificate, Machine Alley scrutineer paperwork and your Victorian Motorcycle License with you. You'll have two options for a club permit: 45 day permits and 90 day permits. You'll receive a log book and red plates from VicRoads once you have paid for your Club Permit Registration, Install the plates and fill out the log book before each ride you do and you are ready to go! NOTE: You need to remain an active financial member of Machine Alley for your club permit to be active.
